The reason to have more racial diversity on any team is because it's helpful to have different perspectives on any issue. And I also believe that. It's easier said than done, unfortunately.
The beautiful thing about having grown up in Brooklyn is, because of the rich cultural and racial diversity there, no one seemed to give too much thought to where I fit on the racial spectrum.
